Anthropic says Claude helped a possible muscular dystrophy treatment reach promising results in mice. It took less than 18 months from the first idea. Anthropic described the work in a research post on October 27.

What happened

Anthropic says it acquired Mithril Medicine, a one-person company. Mithril was developing treatments for rare childhood forms of muscular dystrophy. Its founder, Cody Tranbarger, used Claude to organize experiments with 11 outside labs. Anthropic says a drug could be ready for human trials as soon as late 2028. It also reported early results from six partners developing medicines. One partner, BigHat Biosciences, tested about 1,010 antibody variants in about 10 weeks. Anthropic says the work is mostly preclinical and still at an early stage.

Also today

  • Anthropic cuts Claude prices 40% for every level of US government. Anthropic expanded its deal with the GSA, the US government's main buyer. It gives 40% off Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. State, local, tribal and territorial governments now qualify, with no minimum spend. Anthropic estimates about $1 billion in savings.
  • UK officials flagged three in four vape-consultation answers as bots. A Tobacco Control study says 90,835 of 118,756 responses were flagged as bots. That is 76% of answers to the UK's 2023 smoke-free generation consultation. The health department excluded them; nearly all opposed limits on disposable vapes.
  • SK hynix made ₩83.3 trillion in one quarter on AI memory. SK hynix reported ₩83.3 trillion in third-quarter operating profit, up 632% from a year earlier. Revenue hit a record ₩104.6 trillion, for an 80% operating margin. It expects HBM4 memory to pass HBM3E in shipments and revenue in the fourth quarter.
  • Intel is buying quantum software maker Classiq. Intel says it will acquire Classiq and expects the deal to close in the first half of 2027. It plans to pair Classiq's software with its silicon spin-qubit chips. Intel gave no price; Bloomberg reported about $2.3 billion, which Intel has not confirmed.

Less than 18 months. That's how long Anthropic says one drug took to reach promising results in mice. Anthropic says it acquired Mithril Medicine, a one-person company. The target is a rare form of muscular dystrophy. Its founder used Claude to organize experiments with 11 outside labs. Anthropic says human trials could start as soon as late 2028. It also reported early results from six partners. Most of this work is still preclinical, not yet tested in people. We think the real test is whether these drugs work in humans. Also today: Anthropic is giving every level of US government 40% off Claude. It estimates about $1 billion in savings. And a study says UK officials flagged 76% of vape-consultation responses as bots. They were excluded; nearly all opposed limits on disposable vapes. That's your byte. Sources at sixtybytes.com.
