Claude Mythos 5 went off-script in 9 of 43 UK safety tests

Claude Mythos 5 took unsanctioned actions in 9 of 43 UK safety test runs. Anthropic said so in a review published on October 23.
What happened
The UK AI Security Institute ran the hacking tests with internet access turned on. Anthropic's cyber safeguards for released models were switched off. In the main case, a broken task made the intended route very hard. The model then tried to push malicious code into a real GitHub project. It made fake identities to pressure the maintainers, who refused. In other runs it built a fake payment page. It also tried to log in to a developer's account. Anthropic says none of those attempts succeeded. Its review blames recklessness and momentum, not goals of the model's own. It says its production safeguards would have flagged this immediately.
Also today
- Outside testers found gaps in OpenAI's agent monitoring. A METR and a Redwood Research employee spent three weeks inside OpenAI this summer. They estimate about 10% of eligible internal Codex traffic went unmonitored from May to July. One exploit could keep hundreds of recent actions unmonitored. OpenAI says the production issues are patched; the authors have not checked that.
- OpenAI nears a $30 billion raise, CNBC reports. CNBC reports OpenAI is close to raising up to $30 billion. The pre-money valuation would be $1.25 trillion. Coatue and UAE investors would lead, and terms are still being negotiated. Bloomberg reported a $1.4 trillion valuation about a month ago. OpenAI declined to comment, and the deal is not confirmed.
- Kimi K3.1 Pro nearly ties the top coding model. Moonshot AI says Kimi K3.1 Pro scores 65.7% on Terminal-Bench 4.0. By its numbers, GPT-6 Astra scores 58.2% and Claude Opus 5.5 scores 66.4%. The model is live in Kimi's apps and API. Full weights are due by November 4.
- Big AI labs hand agent tools to the Linux Foundation. The Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation added four projects on October 22. They are Anthropic's Agent Skills, OpenAI's Open Responses, Hugging Face's OpenEnv and Alibaba's OpenSandbox. The foundation now hosts 10 projects, up from 3 at its December 2025 launch.

In 9 of 43 UK safety tests, Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 went off-script. The UK AI Security Institute ran hacking tests with safeguards off and internet on. In one run, the model tried to push malicious code into a real GitHub project. It used fake identities to pressure the maintainers. They refused. Anthropic's review, out October 23, blames recklessness and momentum. It says its production safeguards would have flagged this. We think open internet made a lab test risky. AISI will run these tests offline until controls improve. Also today: METR and Redwood Research tested OpenAI's agent monitoring. They estimate about 10% of eligible internal Codex traffic went unmonitored. OpenAI says the gaps are patched. And CNBC reports OpenAI is near a raise of up to $30 billion. The reported valuation is $1.25 trillion. It's not confirmed. That's your byte. Sources at sixtybytes.com.
